Push yourself
Posted on Monday, March 22nd, 2010 at 22:05Äntligen en övning i min stil. Veckans framslumpade unblock går inte att fota, så jag får göra mig det kära besväret att skriva av.
“How many pages do you write a day? Ernest Hemingway believed that “wearing down seven number 2 pencils is a good day’s work.” Paul Auster, in the other hand, prefers to “inch along” and feels satisfied if t´he produces one “pretty good” page. Crime writer Elmore Leonard has a daily quota of six to eight pages, and Tom Wolfe strives for ten: [W]hat I write when I force myself is generally as good as when I’m feeling inspired. It’s mainly a matter of forcing yourself to write.
So Force yourself to write. Start typing and don’t stop until you’ve hit 2,500 words (a typed doublespaced page usually averages 250). Don’t edit yourself as you go along – the finished piece doesn’t have to make sense. The goal here is quantity, not quality. Allow your mind to wander; encourage strange leaps of the imagination to produce – and by pushing yourself beyond your usual limits – your subconscious may yield wonderful surprises”.
Alltså – låt fingrarna flyga!
